While we love the medicinal effects of cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, like THC and CBD, we also love those delicious terps. Terps, short for terpenes, are the chemical compounds in cannabis that produce each cultivar’s unique flavor and fragrance.

They are determined by the initial seed’s genetic makeup and the environment it’s grown in. Naturally, terpenes help to attract pollinators, repel predators, and recover from damage or illness.
When consumed, a plant's terpene profile and percentage can also significantly influence how you feel. Coastal Sun and all our partner farms grow cannabis organically in nutrient-rich soil, resulting in the most flavorful, terpene-rich flower. Beyond flavor and effects, terpenes also have medicinal properties that can be anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and even neuroprotectant to aid in the recovery of the nervous system.
Myrcene, terpineol, limonene, α-pinene, linalool, humulene, and caryophyllene are the most common terpenes found in cultivars. However, every cultivar has as many as 15 terpenes, each with unique flavors, and they usually blend to exude a variety of tastes and smells.
Our dedication to providing detailed information, including terpene classification and flavor descriptors, empowers you to make informed choices and appreciate the complexity of each strain.
On each of our flower jars, in addition to the genetics and testing percentages, we provide you with the top three flavor descriptors and utilize a specific terpene classification system to categorize the rest into five different profiles: Dank, Green-Herbal, Woody-Spicy, Floral-Fruity, and Gassy.
Below are descriptions of some of our favorite and most flavorful cultivars. Review them and their accompanying terpene profiles. Which ones have you tried? Did you taste the different terps?
